最終氷期において、全ダストフラックスがかなり増加したにもかかわらず、氷期、間氷期を通して、硫酸が付着したダストフラックスは一定だったことが分かった。一方で、硫酸塩のフラックスは気温と逆相関を持ち、硫酸塩粒子と気温の気候学的なカップリングの存在も示唆されている。氷期から間氷期にかけて起きた硫酸塩の減少が、雲の寿命とアルベトに対するエアロゾルの間接効果を減少させ、南極域に0.1〜５Kの温暖化をもたらした可能性がある。

紀元前100年〜紀元前1600年の間に、δ13C含有量が100年スケールの明確な変動を経ていたことを見いだしている。2ボックスモデルの計算を使って、この原因は火成源と生物源の変化であると考えられる。自然の気候変動（中世の気候異常や小氷期など）と中世の人口変化・土地利用（ローマ帝国や漢王朝の衰退）の相関を見いだしている。
