潮位計などの過去200年間の観測記録から、近年全球の海水準上昇が加速していることが示された（0.01 mm/yr2）。ゆっくりとした加速と、急激な変動との二つが確認された。こうしたイベントが19世紀後半から断続的に起きており、過去40年間により頻発化している。

ロシアのカムチャッカ半島の最終氷期以降の氷河の前進・後退の記録について。最終氷期にはより氷河が前進していたことを示すモレーンが堆積しているものの、年代は不明瞭である。LGM以降には小さな規模の氷河の前進期が見られる。完新世にはおおよそ6.8ka以前に現在の位置から8km氷河が前進していた（ただし、もっと古いものである可能性も棄却できない）。また小氷期にも氷河は前進していた。千年スケールの変動は北米氷床とアリューシャン・シベリア高気圧が、数十年スケールの変動はPDOが支配的であると思われる。

オースオトラリア西部のRange岬で得られた鍾乳石δ18Oは過去27kaがから現在にかけての水気候を復元することが可能である。最終退氷期のHS1にもっとも低い値を示す。原因としては偏西風の位置の変化がもたらす水蒸気のソースの変化が考えられる。またインド-オーストラリア・モンスーンがもたらす水蒸気の変化もまた、ITCZの南下を通して大きな影響をもたらしたと思われる。しかし、HS2にはδ18Oのアノマリは確認されていない。またδ13Cの変動は植生・土壌・降水の変動で説明できそうである。

温暖化によって西南極氷床が不安定化し、大規模に崩壊する危険性が危惧されているが、氷床不安定に関する我々の知見は不足している。北半球の氷床（ローレンタイド・フェノスカンジアン氷床）の過去の不安定イベントに対して、ファースト・オーダーでの経験的なアプローチを用いて、集水域の範囲とイベントの継続期間の関係性の評価を行った。西南極氷床のうち崩壊の危険度が大きいのは一部で、負のフィードバックによって他の地域での氷河流出は遅くなると期待される。Pine Island氷河とThwaites氷河の将来予測についても紹介。
