東赤道太平洋で採取された堆積物コア（ODP leg. 849）のダストの鉛同位体を用いて、過去160kaのダストの供給源の変化を復元。南米がその供給源であり続けたが、異なる緯度からの供給量が変動していた。南極アイスコアの記録とも同期して変動していることから、南半球高緯度の偏西風の影響が大きいと思われる。

南太平洋の水塊の化学特性はあまり調査されていない。南米からニュージーランドに至る40ºS線に沿って海水を採取し、εNdおよびREEを測定。東赤道太平洋におけるスカベンジングと堆積物からの溶出を起源とするREEが水塊に溶け込んでいる。εNdはAAIW・LCDW・NPDW・NADW（の名残）で異なる値を示し、水塊の良いトレーサーになることが示された。ニュージーランド沿岸部の堆積物と海水の接地面では同位体交換が起きており、εNdにも時空間変動があることが示唆される。

2006年、メキシコ湾のFlower Garden Banks（水深20〜50m）にて化石のAcropora palmataが発見された。年代決定により完新世最温暖期に栄えていたことが分かった。その後の海水温の低下と海水準上昇に負けて衰退したと考えられる。さらに2007年にはAcropora cervicornisの化石が発見され、こちらは小氷期の寒冷化に負けてその後衰退していた。近年、A. palmataが再び繁殖しつつあり、海水温上昇の影響と考えられる。

GCMを用いて最終間氷期（Eemian）の熱帯域・モンスーン域の水・同位体循環を復元。インドモンスーン地域におけるδ18Oは主に量的効果（amount effect）に支配されており、一方下流にある東アジアのδ18Oは水蒸気の輸送過程における18Oの降着の影響が大きいことが示された。鍾乳石をはじめとするδ18Oの再解釈が必要であるとともに、過去にITCZが変動した原因をよりよく研究する必要がある。
