Allan Chivas先生のセミナー

こんにちは、M1の雨川(あめかわ)です。

5月26日に、オーストラリアのウーロンゴン大学からAllan Chivas先生を、産業技術総合研究所から斉藤文紀先生をお招きしました。

Chivas先生は国際第四紀学連合(INQUA)という大きな国際学会の前会長です。2015年に初めて日本でINQUAが行われることになっており、斉藤先生はその準備委員会の委員長を務めておられます。Chivas先生はその視察にいらしていたようで、オーストラリアにお帰りになる前に大気海洋研究所に寄っていただきました。

午後にはChivas先生によるセミナーを開催いたしました。
Charophyteという藻類の一種が形成する炭酸塩を分析して、新たな(古)環境指標として用いるための研究を紹介していただきました。
余談ですが、その日の夜に翌日のセミナー発表の準備で調べ物をしていたところ、Chivas先生の論文に出会いました。約30年前の研究で、当時世界で初めて貝形虫(ostracod)の炭酸塩中の微量元素と環境との関係を明らかにされたそうです。
当時から今も変わらず、新しい研究分野の開拓をしていらっしゃる様子が伺えました。

進学ガイダンス

こんにちは、M1の都築です。
510()に大気海洋研究所の進学ガイダンスがありました。
まず、始めに講堂で全体の説明があった後、ポスターによる説明があり、その後、分野ごとに分かれての詳しいガイダンスがありました。
横山研にもたくさんの学生が訪問してくださり、AMS棟や7階の実験室を見学しました。
