The 23rd Radiocarbon Conference

こんにちは、M1の石沢です。

6/17-22、ノルウェー第3の都市・トロンハイムで開催されたThe 23rd International Radiocarbon Conferenceに参加してきました。地球科学のみならず、考古学、測定機器開発など放射性炭素に関わる様々な研究者が集まる学会です。

研究室からは横山先生、宮入さん、福與さん、石沢が参加しました。

私にとって初の国際学会ということで少し緊張していましたが、著名な方々から自分のポスターへのコメントをもらったり同分野の学生や研究者と話して新たな知見を得たりと、とても刺激的な体験となりました。
同時に英語力と知識の不足を実感したので今後とも精進していきたいと思います。

学会期間中はほぼ毎日雨、気温も10度前後と少し残念な天気でしたが、学会主催の観光ツアーや夜のPUB巡りも楽しみました。夏至に近いため日の出ている時間が非常に長く、24時になっても暗くならないという不思議な感覚を味わいました。

11-14世紀に建築されて以降、火事や落雷で損傷と修復を繰り返しているそう

大聖堂の西側にある、1900年代に復元された彫刻群。
資料と彫刻家の想像を基に復元されたため、中には
「ボブ・ディランにインスピレーションを受けて作られた」ものもあるのだとか…
