IMOG2011@スイス


D2の山口保彦です。
Blogに載せるのが遅くなりましたが、9/18-9/23にスイスのInterlakenで開催されたIMOG2011(国際有機地球化学会)に参加してきました! ドイツで開催された前回(2009年)から2回目の参加。発表件数が1週間で600件ほどと、それなりに大きな学会です。



豪華で大きな会場にちょっとビビりましたが、火曜日の口頭発表も無事終わりました。前の週の日本地球化学会と同様に、微生物や堆積物のアミノ酸窒素同位体組成の結果をまとめて話しました。終わった後、「Great talk!」とか「Nice talk!」とか声をかけられたので、それなりに好評だったと思われます。

学会全体をみると、2年前にもましてGDGTs(アーキアやバクテリアのテトラエーテル膜脂質)の発表が多かった印象です。TEX86やMBT/CBTなどのプロキシを用いた古環境研究、Intact Polar Lipids (IPLs) を用いた海底下生命圏研究など、応用が多岐にわたり、議論もそれだけ白熱していました。

ちなみにアミノ酸は、山口を入れて発表が3件のみと、最近のこの学会の中ではマイナーな位置にいます。しかし数年後には応用が広がって、もっと流行っているはず…!(と信じています)

次回(2年後)のIMOGは、スペインのカナリア諸島で開催されるそうです。



今回の開催地Interlakenは、その名の通り二つの湖の間にある街です。アルプスのふもとにあり、観光客でごったがえしていました。

そして学会後には、学会主催の巡検でアルプスに登ってきました! 電車でJungfrauの頂上近く(標高3,454m!)まで行けるので楽ちんです。

トンネルが山の中を貫き、上まで続いています。

アルプスの氷河!

山の上でも時計が売っていました。さすがスイス!
