石垣島調査

こんにちは、M1の都築です。
先日、石垣島へ調査に行ってきました!
東北大学と台湾の東華大学の研究者の方たちと、過去の津波で打ち上がったサンゴの化石である“津波石”の調査とサンプル採取を行いました。
津波石からは、過去の津波の規模や年代だけでなく過去の気候に関する情報も含まれています。


津波石がたくさん打ち上がっています
このような巨大な物も
津波の規模の大きさがわかります

さまざまなアプローチで津波石の研究に取り組む方たちとのディスカッションでとても良い刺激をうけることができました!
これから持ち帰ったサンプルの分析が楽しみですね。

調査後はオリオンビールを飲みながら沖縄料理を楽しみました!
