AGU 2017
12月11-16日
アメリカ地球物理連合 (AGU)の年会(Fall meeting)がルイジアナ州で開かれました。
これまでで初めてニューオーリンズで開催されるということもあり、参加者の減少が危惧されていたようでしたが、例年通り2万人以上の参加がありました。
横山先生は口頭発表が2件とポスターの発表や、AGUのジャーナルのエディター会議、また新しく出版委員会(Editorial Committee)のメンバーになっており大変忙しく過ごされましたが、充実した一週間だったということです。
横山先生「Heinrich eventで有名なハインリッヒさんと議論を行い、ペンシルバニア州立大学のリチャード アリー教授と氷床や極域環境についての議論をしたりしました。中日にはルイジジアナ州立大の教授の宿舎で夕食をご馳走になり、本場のジャンバラヤもいただきました。また何より、中学の時にアメリカに行った時に叶えられなかったミシッシッピ川をこの目で見る、、、という夢が叶い、外輪船を間近にみれたのは感激でした。」

山形大学集中講義
12月6-8日
横山先生が山形大学の理学部で集中講義をされました。
講義内容は、「氷期-間氷期サイクルに伴う海水準変動」、「氷期・間氷期と二酸化炭素」、「最終氷期の海洋」、「最終間氷期とMIS11」、「退氷期」、「プレートテクトニクスと長期の地球表層環境」についてでした。
多くの学生さんが受講してくれました。
初日の夜には雪が降りましたが、関東からすると寒い天候も現地ではまだ暖かいほうだということでした。
